Slicin' and Dicin'
Completing his annual tour of duty as an Anime Expo staffer, the
HTML Swiss Army Knife returned to find a
mountain of work waiting for him back at EX.
Most people work from sun to sun, but the HTML
Knife's work is never done!
Mein Kämpfer
As a former GUNDAM loyalist (now just a
WING-nut), the HTML Knife
noted with amusement that the venerable sci-fi juggernaut (soon to be
20 years old) had finally made its way stateside. Mein Gott! Repeat
after me, ye fearful GUNDAM fans, and raise the
battle cry: "Bandaaaaaaiii!"
Play it again, Yoko-san!
Weary of magical girls and the umpteenth TENCHI
rehash, his fervor for anime in general diminished, and with no new
GUNDAM show in sight (having long disavowed the
piece of $#!% known as THE 08TH MS TEAM), the
HTML Knife longed for a show with the same
knock-out punch of EVANGELION or
ESCAFLOWNE.
Imagine the Swiss Army Knife's delight when he
finally got his keyboard-worn paws on a tape of COWBOW
BEBOP! With its gritty sci-fi setting and a jazz soundtrack by
musical genius Kanno Yoko, BEBOP was enough to
warm the furry critter's little heart. "Now this is more like it!"
exclaimed the HTML Knife, a twinkle in his eye.
Coming next issue...

So much happened at Anime Expo, we couldn't fit it all into one issue.
Be here in six to listen in on the candid conversation we had with Guest
of Honor Hayama Junichi, character designer for JOJO'S
BIZARRE ADVENTURE and the new TV series
KING OF THE DESERT GANDALLA.
Also: Chris Kohler takes a break from HTML production to
talk about DVD and whether anime fans should
buy into the new format.
